Okay staunch KK supporters who are members, let’s examine this. I am writing this post in an attempt to wrap my brain around this whole debacle as well. And I speak from my own point of view, too, so bear with me.
We always knew there were KK “haters” out there. Some of us know the “history” at LCF firsthand, some of us don’t. We have followed the plan and have had success on it. Haven’t (or have) had any of the symptoms described. We are happy with our results, and have made many a contact on the forum, which means a lot to us. These people have supported us. We’ve supported them. Our forum was a happy, nice, friendly place. Then that whole JM thing happened. Man, did he do a 180 or what? May have made us mad. We might have taken it personally. We didn’t like that Just Ducky persona that was attacking JM. Thought it was over the top. So when he dropped us like a hot potato and Just Ducky began to focus on the site owner, we were already up in arms…we’ve seen some of those tactics. The KimATC posting. Makes us mad! Why can’t they just leave it alone? We are thankful to the site and its owner for finally showing us how we can lose. Heck–I couldn’t lose on Weight Watchers, or maintain, so I thought it a gift to find the site. But, all that aside…there are serious misgivings we should be having. Surely they nag at the back of your brain? They don’t? Seriously?
Do you really believe it appropriate for a teenager to be told she doesn’t need more calories? I thought the diet didn’t have restrictions? What happened to the “eat when hungry” tenet? That’s what I thought the diet was about. If a member says I’m hungry, especially a growing teen who NEEDS her calcium and other assorted vitamins AND minerals AND fat, why not say “eat–just pick from protein and healthy fats” instead of “I don’t agree that you need more calories?” And who’s to say a vLCD WON’T have potential health problems down the road? The owner can’t–she’s not a doctor. She won’t even post a picture of herself. oh, red dress pic…yeah, right. sure. NOT. Plus she’s said that she doesn’t promote to teens (”K: I also turn teenagers away. (J: Oh really.) Only because — we have teenagers on site, but teenagers as I know first hand, tend to be extreme. If you say do A, they will do A times a hundred. And, with my experience with teenagers, I, I just don’t wanna do, to encourage them“), yet when a teen joins, does she block her and issue a refund like a responsible adult and business owner? No, she does that to those who disagree with her. HUH???
Let’s talk agoraphobia for a minute. Panic disorders. Anxiety disorders. Those are no joking matter. And we sympthize and feel for those who suffer from such. And why wouldn’t we be sympathizing and believe the owner when she says she suffers from this? Most days, remember–she said so in the podcast (JM’s) and yet she also claims to be a CASA (”She earned a graduate degree in Public Administration and serves as a volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for abused children”). Have you seen what it takes socially just to become a CASA? Click here. This includes “Appear at all hearings to advocate for the child’s best interests and provide testimony when necessary.” You think one can fulfill a committment when he/she suffers from these types of disorders? Don’t you just want to ask “so which is it?” without being banned or called rude? Or slammed from “supporting” members of the site for being hostile?
I think, if she truly believed in what she was promoting and that it was harmless and valid, she’d be the person shouting it from the rooftops. She never has been–she enlists others, true believers, to do her work for her. And she lets them lie for her, because her credibility is even more at stake now than ever. I feel for us all, who have defended and been offended by the naysayers. We truly believed. And we don’t want to admit we were duped. We were–gut feeling–and you know how those go. It really doesn’t take a gut feeling though, the evidence of lies is out there. The question is, what will it take to convince you of that?
If you hear hooves, think horses, not zebras.
VERY GOOD ARTICLE!! I too was a KK supporter and one of the ones that didn’t want to “think horses”. My own “wake up moment” came after reading kimmers fitday. I was shocked to read that during the time of her supposed weight loss she was eating on average 1000-1200 calories a day (many days more) and 50-60 grams of fat. Her daily menus didn’t look even remotely like what she teaches and promotes on Kimkins. So she sells a plan that she says is “safe” and “healthy” that she didn’t even follow herself! Countless people on the site are eating under 500 calories a day and being encouraged to stick to it. Even though you can google literally thousands of studies on the deadly dangers of such low calories…these people (my gullible self included) believe they are safe and doing something healthy…because Kimmer says so. Kimmer says so….with NOTHING to back up her claims. I can barely wrap my brain around it.
The other thing that left me speechless, was the dairy entrances on her fitday referring to hosting dinner parties for 50 people and a trip to Mexico with her son. Hardly the activities of a so called agoraphobic.
It has now been proven that she hasn’t been a CASA in several years…the list of discrepancies is endless now. Personally I abhor liars. After reading her fitday, any credibility she had with me, went swirling down the drain, but now far more serious lies are coming to light. I shudder to think what’s coming next.
Hello friend!
I appreciate your point of view and since you approach your blog with far more integrity than the others, perhaps you’ll allow a different view.
I am a Kimkins member, following the diet plan as written for several months with no ill effects and an excellent weight loss to date. For me, the website is about a diet and a private support network – it is not about 1 person. Since you followed the eating plan and presumably did so in a healthy manner, you must be aware that the Kimkins diet is easily followed, without tweaking, in a manner that any doctor could approve. Despite many posts to the contrary, Kimkins per se is not limited to 710 calories.
Which brings me to this whole calorie/fat issue slammed on the anti-Kimkins threads on LCF, the Active LowCarber forum and some of the other blogs. Why are people adopting a mainstream nutritional guideline of 1200 calories minimum while at the same time ignoring mainstream guidelines of maximum calories, recommendations to eat lower fat (especially lower saturated fats), and recommended protein levels. Low carb eating as a whole is based on the premise that it’s not all about calories. And even in mainstream nutrition circles, all the numbers are based on averages for healthy people, not absolutes that apply to everyone. I can eat plenty of nutritious food for 700 or 800 calories or I can eat horribly unhealthy food for 1200 or 1500 calories. So can anyone else (and they do, as evidenced by many threads on LCF and ALC). The assumption that more than 20,000 people are all eating long term vLCD, taking stimulant laxatives, doing diet coke fasts and never once seeing their doctors is bizarre to say the least.
With respect to the teenager, as Deni posted, the girl was being monitored by Deni herself and by her own account, by her mother. What do you think this girl learned by the theft of her words and photos and posting of those on places where she had no intention of putting them? A fine example of caring and concern that was, by adults (I use the term loosly as the behaviour is not very adult-like), many with children of their own.
But is it even about the diet itself? Some say yes, some say no. Some people say yes at one time and no at another.
So maybe it’s just about Kimmer? Motivated by what, really – past differences on LCF? Jealousy that she’s making money? I don’t know and it doesn’t really matter. If there’s a legitimate fraud of some sort, please gather actual and factual evidence and present it to appropriate authorities. Don’t just blog and post about things that have no basis in fact or truth and/or are not even relevant in the first place. What does a person’s past marital problems or financial problems have to do with anything?
And involving other people and posting about their personal things? Kimmer’s children? Deni? Christin? and now starting on new admins? And Jimmy Moore – the first victim? What does maligning these people do?
So to all the shock bloggers, LCF and ALC I say put your money where your mouth is. Hire an investigator. Post facts and evidence if you have them and/or can get them. Tell us who you are if you’re so honest and above board and show some proof, some expert evidence about photos, anything concrete. Then let the chips fall where they may.
Until I see something besides gossip and garbage, I can only see zebras when I hear the hoofbeats.
